Lockdown
During Covid 19 - 2020
During the Covid 19 period, I was in the middle of applying for design jobs and was furloughed from my job as a barista in a coffee shop. Whilst it was an uncertain time, I found a lot of joy from being free to design experimentally and for myself.
I used this time to learn new skills and update my portfolio with a range of self directed and paid freelance projects. These include primarily illustration based design, something I enjoy but haven’t done much of since University.
Char-Lingo Bingo
During this period it was my 23rd birthday, which was in April so the beginning of the pandemic when Zoom calls and quizzes were all the rage. As I couldn’t go out and celebrate with my friends like I usually would, I used my free time to design a virtual bingo night. Linking it to the nights out we’ve been on at ‘Bingo Lingo’, I called my night ‘Char-Lingo Bingo’. I designed the bingo cards and logo. I dropped bags with the bingo books, an alcoholic beverage and pink bingo dabber round to each friend and had our bingo night over Zoom complete with me as host with my bingo wheel.
Baked by Soph
Baked by Soph, was a business set up by a friend during lockdown. Sophie is a brilliant baker so used this time to start selling her creations including an array of custom orders from 5 layer cake masterpieces to beautiful cupcakes. The end logo result I designed was used for stickers to go on the cake boxes, business cards and on her Instagram, (@baked_by_soph), where I also made price lists and other posts. Producing the logo and branding for her involved several Zoom meetings and many emails. It was interesting to work in this way and not face to face but these are the valuable skills I will now need in this new way of working we all must become accustom to.
Greetings Cards
It was during this time that I began making greetings cards for family and friends as I set myself the challenge of not buying a single card throughout lockdown and instead designing them all myself.
